A | New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished him a fruitful tenure of AICC presidency.

conveyed best wishes to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on his election as party president and wished him a fruitful tenure.

"My best wishes to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji for his new responsibility as President of @INCIndia. May he have a fruitful tenure ahead," Modi tweeted.

Kharge was elected All India Congress Committee President, defeating Shashi Tharoor in the sixth electoral bout in the party's 137-year-old history.

Kharge, who is the first party president outside the Gandhi family in 24 years, will formally assume charge on October 26.
